Preggo Summer

Posted on July 7, 2016 at 2:55 PM Comments comments (0)

When I was pregnant with my first, Reese, her and I kicked it during the winter. Second time around....different story! Wesley and I are HOT and I'm ready for him to come on out. He still has some cooking though so I'm just gonna have to stay hydrated & grin & bare it!

Thank goodness I've stumbled upon prenantal yoga too! Without it, it couldn't imagine day to day activities.

I've certainly been keeping busy though. The nursery was done 2 months in. Well the bones at least. Of course what nursery wouldn't be complete without the adorable decor? The colors and subtle safari style theme was inspired around the large dreamcatcher I created. We also opted for this large vintage style map which really ties in the theme. Sweet dreams little boo.

Before we put up the map, I had an inquiry about a dreamcatcher mobile for a customer's nursery so I had to give them the full effect.

Not only have I been nesting around the house but my pregnancy has released some seriously creative juices. I've been able to bust out some new fun colorful collections in my jewelry & dreamy lines.

Eventhough this heat is getting to me, it hasn't stopped us in the Gypsy Tent. We've been having so much fun popping up at The Tar Roof here in Pungo, VA. If you haven't been to one of their bazaars...be sure to check it out this summer! Tons of local vendors, live art demonstrations and food....yummmm...food. Now I'm hungry.

Hope to see you gypsys out and about. Stay cool.

Fall/Winter 2015 Photoshoot

Posted on October 20, 2015 at 11:20 AM Comments comments (0)

We finally had some decent weather here in Virginia Beach to shoot some looks for Fall/Winter.  A well spent Sunday afternoon over a generous supply of mimosas, family, true friends & music!

A huge THANK YOU to Heather Lynn Wyatt who has played a big role in supporting Gypsy Melange, with her photography skills and retail/wholesale knowledge. Her enthusiasm and excitement to get behind the camera again was refreshing and inspiring!

And of course, much LOVE goes to the girls who truly revealed their inner gypsy during the shoot! Heather and I choose Alysa to capture a softer bohemian styled look and Holly, who pulled off pink hair and edgy flair perfectly. My little mini Reese had a blast as our “assistant” and shaggy pup Gidget wasn’t far behind, even making it into one of my favorite shots!

Textile Inspiration!

Posted on October 8, 2015 at 12:25 AM Comments comments (0)

I’ve truly grown to love and appreciate textiles and find myself incorporating more and more into each collection.

Batiks are my absolute favorite fabric to use. Though the exact source of where these fabrics derived from is unknown, most batiks present day are handcrafted by talented artisans in Indonesia.

Batik fabric is essentially a resist technique for making designs on fabric. The artist uses wax to prevent dye from penetrating the cloth, leaving blank areas in the dyed fabric. This resist process is usually repeated over and over to create complex multicolored designs. This is the reason I love using batiks on dreamcatchers. The pattern is visible on both sides so once it’s on the dreamcatcher, you can still see the unique design on both sides. Not to mention the flow and colors of batiks in my opinion, the best!

On a recent trip to a local antique mall here in Virginia Beach, I stumbled across some glass jars filled with remnants of sari silk ribbon.

A sari or sometimes spelled saree is a garment consisting of a length of cotton or silk elaborately draped around the body, traditionally worn by women from South Asia. The batch I was lucky to find had different fibers consisting of silk, poly, chiffon, cotton and even some handspun wool! These rich bold colors immediately made me think of Tigerlily’s costume in the new Pan movie.

Soon I created the Tigerlily Dreamcatcher Collection. Not having seen the movie yet just the trailer, I designed this collection using tassels, chain, doilies, wood beads and real tree branches. Keeping the feenatural and whimsical just like you were in Neverland!

(Spoil Alert) All these fibers and fabric have also sparked my interest to incorporate into my jewelry as well.

I’ll be adding more dreamcatchers and mobiles to the Tigerlily Collection soon but for now I’ll be in my room playing- just like a kid never wanting to grow up!

A Melange of Leather

Posted on July 23, 2015 at 9:10 AM Comments comments (0)

Previously, during my quest for creativity, I decided to challenge myself and experiment with leather. Not in a Fifty Shades of Grey kind of way either!

It seemed fitting to add more leather to my melange of other products like the signature Gypsy Melange triple wrap bracelets.

One of the things I look for in jewelry and definitely consider when I’m creating new lines is COMFORT! If it’s uncomfortable- forget it! I’m not saying I’ve never sacrificed comfort to pull off an outfit either (I’m talking about you 5” pumps that gave me blisters which shortened my dance life for the evening and kept me in bed the whole next day. Or maybe it was too many cocktails- anyways).

Working with leather is NO quiet task. But it’s fun to hammer away at those rivets and snaps! With a little (a lot) of trial and error, I have found a style that I like working with most . I love the look of embossed cow hide in fun animal or tribal prints. **Please keep in mind this leather is NOT made from exotic animals skins. It is cowhide that has been stamped and dyed**

After putting the magic touches on these leather cuffs, they are SO soft and comfortable to wear. They are lightweight and easy to take on and off with the snap closure too.

I’ll be making lots of noise as the summer comes to an end. This is just a sneak peek at what will be available soon. Reveal your inner gypsy this Fall! Be sure to check the SHOP to see availability!

Weekend Jewelry Adventure

Posted on March 30, 2015 at 10:30 AM Comments comments (0)

This past weekend was fun and eventful! I was given the opportunity to sell my jewelry and dreamcatchers at another shop that supports local artists and their handcrafted goods. If you are around the Willamsburg, VA area, I suggest popping into Artfully Yours. It’s a super cute quaint old home that has been transformed into not only a shop but an amazing art and creative studio for kids and adults. They offer a variety of art classes and host birthday parties so trust me….it’s worth it to check them out!

Though I’ve grown attached to all I make, it’s hard to let pieces go but exciting to know someone will soon be enjoying MY CREATIONS! I took my time when picking out which pieces to deliver then spent what seemed like FOREVER tagging and pricing everything. Thanks to a few glasses of vino and good music, it made the process fun.

Rested and excited, rocking the first dream catcher necklace I made (my lucky necklace), it was time for my mini road trip.

On the way to deliver my goods (about an hour away from my home), I stopped by a bead, mineral and gem show. I couldn’t resist- it was on the way. My guy, my love, my best friend insisted he come along for comic relief & support. Coincidentally, there was boat show in the convention center too. So like giddy kids we ran our separate ways and didn’t see each other for a few hours.

I love going to these shows because there are so many options and great deals. Not to mention, it definitely sparks my creativity when I’m staring at an abundance of unique stones and findings. I found some jade, african turquoise, amazonite and more that will add to the mélange of my boho leather wrap bracelets.I also scored a bunch of turquoise, coral and druzy which have inspired some new Gemstone Collections I plan to start soon.

So be sure to stay tuned to see what’s been added to the SHOP. Peace & Love!

In the Workshop: Repurposed Guitar String Jewelry.

Posted on February 23, 2015 at 8:30 AM Comments comments (0)

I’d like to thank these snow days for keeping me inside to get my craft on. Cabin fever has given me the motivation and creativity to bust these out one by one.

I worked on a bunch of repurposed guitar string pieces. I love the fact that I am working with something used that was once enjoyed by someone else in a complete different way.

You may notice on my guitar string jewelry, nicks and imperfections. That’s the beauty of it though. Someone used these strings to play their heart out on instruments to create music, something beautiful that they love and enjoy. Then I get to turn those imperfect strings into something beautiful I love and enjoy. It’s a win win!

You can "ROCK" these anytime of day. With it's simplicity, these necklaces and bracelets will go with any outfit. Wear it at your next concert or surprise your music loving friend with a unique handmade gift. Like any musician, you will certainly draw a crowd wearing these pieces. Now available in the SHOP!

No fuss jewelry..when you don't know what to wear!

Posted on February 4, 2015 at 9:05 AM Comments comments (0)

Let’s face it…

As women we never know what mood we will be in. The question, “What should I wear” haunts us every time we open those closet doors. Eventually you’ll find something then decide to zhush it up with some jewelry right? There has been many of times digging through my jewelry drawer where a necklace I love won’t work with the neckline of my shirt and maybe I’ve been on the what not to wear list for trying.

That’s what sparked my necklace/wrap bracelet combo seen in the Gemstone Collections. These days it’s all about convenience. So if that necklace won’t work with the top, wrap it around your wrist and there you go! Sudden evening work meeting? Using your bracelet as a necklace with change your look with no fuss. These combos are also perfect pieces of jewelry when traveling. Less to pack but multiple options!

Make fashion easier and keep it simple. Check out the Gemstone Collections SHOP to see what’s available.

Peace & Love!

Life of a creative person.

I can’t believe I am finding the time to even write this. I’m guessing it’s because I am finally feeling the stress float away as I settle into our new home. Moving. What a beast! Especially right after Christmas when school is starting back up and you can’t find a pencil or lunch box for your daughter because you’ve packed it all up! My hands are ridiculously dry with cuts from opening boxes and let’s not mention I can’t even lift my arms. This past weekend will constitute for being in the gym for about….let’s say…forever?? In all honesty, I wouldn’t trade it. It’s a new year full of new adventures that I’m definitely looking forward to.

I literally waited until moving day to officially box up all my jewelry making supplies. I mean, I did box it all up in advance but then I found myself opening a different box each day because I crave creativity! When I should have been cleaning out the last few junk drawers after a long day at work, I found peace sitting in my messy room digging in the box that had the perfect size leather or clasp I needed to create the designs running through my head.

I had fun working with these unique leather wraps (in a pile of mess on my floor). Some with suede and fun large hole beads that you can move around your wrist to suit the look you like.

In the old home, my beading room was my bedroom. Not that much space. This photo was taken awhile ago too. Eventually the dresser was taken over by jewelry both in and on top! I had to give up clothes to make room.

In the new home, I have the entire guest room! Let me back up and say my goal was to finish unpacking and setting up my daughter’s bedroom and playroom before I tackled mine. It was very difficult to walk by this room and see boxes labeled, BEADS- FRAGILE, GINA’S JEWELS, WAY TOO HEAVY, and not stop to play. I needed a cabinet for supplies which I didn’t have.

I ended up finding the perfect lightweight cabinet at Hobby Lobby. I was certain that it would slide into my Toyota Camry with the seats down. With that cabinet on a cart and another filled with decorations for my girls room... who was I kidding? That thing and all that stuff didn’t fit in my car! Maybe it will fit through the window? Sunroof? F*** it! Gimme that cart, I'll walk home! I was determined to get my new cabinet home so I could start organizing and busting out some jewelry! Unfortunately, I had to walk back in and put my merchandise on hold until I could come back with a bigger vehicle.

Funny short side note to this damn cabinet: Next day I call my friend who's car will fit my cabinet. We make a much needed Target run. After that off to the Lobby. Or not, her car won't start. Wait in the cold for a ride. No cabinet and an unecessary amount of Target bags.

My guy comes through hours later with my (insert furniture name here- maybe I've jinxed it.) I love my new room! The colors and textures inspire new designs each day. Now I’m able to have a sitting area for guests to shop and relax while we collaborate on new pieces they’d like to add to their collection.

With the excitement of spring in the near future, I've begun making these playful floral crowns. My daughter can't get enough of them and neither can I. So if you have an upcoming wedding or special event to attend, I'd love to create the perfect floral crown for you. These would make a great gift or you could rock it to your next music festival.

I think this year is a new chapter. The part in the book where it gets good. And I'm excited to share it with you!

Peace & Love,
